It's been a long time coming. The first publicly available version of Heroes of Feonora went online May 10, 2010. Since that time we've been plugging along quietly in the background, making small, incremental improvements to the website, exploring some of the game's Ready Made Characters, and talking to handfuls of potential artists on possible collaboration. Along the way, a couple of those folks decided to come on board to contribute to this Free/Downloadable version of the project. Lisa and I are very pleased to say that the PDF Packs now include a small set of beautifully illustrated Character Portraits to help players get started. Previously, the Character Portraits sheet was a lonely canvas of empty frames. Now players will find that some interesting characters have begun to arrive. As time goes by we'll see if we can't expand this collection even further. In other news Merrick the Stablekeep reports that new Mounts have arrived at the stables. "They're a fine lot, fit for a good journey. Reliable too...well, maybe not that shifty looking one off in the corner there. Might want to take it easy with that one; they say the previous owner went missing a fortnight ago." Add Comment It's been a while since I've had an opportunity to chat with you all. Thanks for hanging in there and...we hope you've had a chance to put a set together and get some quality game time. Don't forget to invite a few younger players. The reason for this quick post is to let you know that a minor (though in some ways significant) update is just on the horizon. We don't want to set an exact date as the more important aim is getting things right (e.g. putting the PDF Packs properly together). Let's just say that...before the month is out, Heroes of Feonora will have reached another milestone in its ongoing development. Those with completed sets needn't worry as this should prove to be a very smooth update for everyone. Talk to you again soon. By request we're uploading a reformatted, fully-assembled PDF Game Manual. There are no changes to the content from version 1.0.3. It's merely the source file for the "Flat" style manual, only instead of being split into two files (for printing front-to-back) the entire document can be read cover to cover...as it were. So, for those interested in learning more about the game's structure, rules and other aspects, who are conscientious about conserving paper & toner (bless you for it), a complete readable PDF is now available: EDIT: The Complete PDF formatted Game Manual is now permanently hosted on the Support page. If you've spent any time on this website over the past few months you may have noticed a bit of information missing from the About page. Head over there now and you'll find that a little something has been added, something that offers a brief glimpse into the past. Those preferring a higher resolution version may click HERE. ================ This Post is Now Obsolete ================ The original color of the Spells card backing just hasn't felt right. In fact, the dark blue-gray color that some of you already have is the fourth attempt at creating a color identity for the Spells deck. And now, one more attempt. This time I think we may just have nailed it - let us know what you think. While at it, we went ahead and updated the Mounts deck (card backing) as well. Both are already integrated with the newly uploaded Color PDF Pack. For those who already have the full PDF Pack, the following links provide a direct download for the new Spells Color card backing and Mounts Color card backing. Yesterday was a milestone. We've been plugging away since release day and now the main elements of the Make It page are well in place. This means that once people have downloaded the PDF Pack, they'll now have a place to go for some tips and ideas on how to put it all together. For those thinking about putting a set together, we suggest starting with the READ ME FIRST text file included in the PDF Pack. From there, pay a visit to the Make It page for some additional ideas and (perhaps) inspiration. Which brings us to the next phase of the website. Some time in the next several days our goal is to get an initial FAQ in place, followed by a small Support page, where we can interact a little better and respond to questions or matters that haven't been covered elsewhere. Meanwhile, content for the Make It page will continue to expand and grow as needed based on feedback or other ideas that may come along. A little further down the road we'll be posting another small addition to the website, that will offer a glimpse into the past... It's been wonderful finally being able to share this project with others, and hopefully, as the website continues to grow, many more in the days & weeks to come. It's been a long and arduous journey; but after sweeping out a few lingering Scribbles and contending with a wayward Band of Brigands, Lisa and I have managed to push out the first public release. We'd like to welcome those of you who are new to the game (which ought to be most people at this stage) and say that many adventures await. The imaginary world of Feonora is a magical place that taps into the imagination, rewards creativity and reminds us all that working together can be fun too. We'll be using this blog to talk about different characteristics of the game, make the occasional announcement and keep readers up-to-date on the latest progress. Heroes of Feonora has been designed from day one as an 'RPG Adventure for the Whole Family.' But that doesn't mean there isn't plenty of competitive strategy built in. Give it a try and let us know what you think. We'd especially like to know how some of the younger players are faring. Of course we also understand it will take a little time to get those first sets put together, so the focus in the coming weeks for all of us is going to be - Making the Game. Welcome to Feonora. |
