Ruleset version 1.0.9

10/2/2014

This latest update to the game could probably best be categorized as, 'lots of little things that all add up.'  It started with just a few small adjustments we would have been content to hold onto for a time; but then, as they often do things began to click into place.  I don't know that I could describe it properly but from a game design standpoint it's probably one of the best feelings (and ways of going about it).  That is, to let things emerge almost as if on their own, in good time in a kind of natural fashion.  That's what we feel these changes most reflect.  So let's get to it shall we?
Release Notes for Ruleset 1.0.9
Expert Fishing skill functions the same as it always has done but is now regarded as "Master Class" Fishing.  Any "Master Class" Fishers out there yet?

Character Class Adjustments,
Dwarves are now de facto Treasure Hunters and get one additional Special Skill.
Existing Dwarves should be  updated to have the Treasure Hunting skill plus one more.
Khajathi and Malornians have increased Starting Health
Hauflins now start each game with 3 Fish and (more significantly) come with a
natural ~ if variable ~ amount of  progress toward "Master Class" fishing
expertise (page 7).  This is based on player age at the time of character creation so
all existing Hauflins out there gain an immediate boost to their Fishing Academy
lessons (where applicable, groups may decide whether refunds are appropriate).

Oh, there's another little secret with regard to progression of the Hauflin Character Class, but we'll let you discover that one on your own...

Side Quest M2 "A Pathway Blocked" retains the original 'card game' but the instructions for it should now be easier to understand.  Just remember that it's possible for some party members to come away from the dice game with individual winnings even though the group has just lost the game to the Dwarves.

Fighter's Guild Fee (page 20) is now collected by the Guild from only the losing fighter.  What does this mean?  In the case of a win or tie Player Characters get to collect back the Copper Piece put up at the beginning of the match.  Also, using up a Fortitude Hit Counter or piece of Protective Gear now prevents characters from being stunned and/or tossed into Washout Lane.

Opponents deck,
Hobnobbin the Hobgoblin (P016) downgraded from d8 to d6
Fusspot the Android (P017) downgraded from d8 to d6
Honald the Fighting Monk (P039) downgraded from d12 to d8
Turns out he's an still an apprentice Monk
Gunthaar the Brute (P038) downgraded from d12 to d8
Because unbeknownst to Gunthaar someone went and tied his shoelaces together
just before the match.  It wasn't Spooner (this time).

Things involving Permanent Mounts,
Permanent Mounts can now be traded in at the Stables for any Rentable Mount with the "Trade In" function being bundled into a single Action (page 29).  They can also be released back to the Stables for a small sum of Copper Pieces. These changes are meant to make the Mount upgrade process smoother while retaining the inherent risk involved in trying to increase the status/attributes of a Permanent Mount.

Mount cards,
Domesticated Mushroom Creature (M001) movement reduced from 5 to 4
Removed Class restriction on Rock Golem (M008) and Ant of Burden (M019)
Fastidious Old Horse replaced with "Gentle Agiyuba" (M010)
Adult Caterpillar (M024) movement reduced from 8 to 7
Mountain Goat (M030) movement reduced from 9 to 8
Steampunk Snail (M047) has reverted to the more docile and organic "Giant Snail"
Minor price adjustments here and there...

Characters who already have adopted Adult Caterpillars and Mountain Goats may retain the movement value of the Mount at the time of adoption.  It would seem that your character must have come into possession of a most rare specimen of the breed, one that is probably never to be seen again.
