Addendum (2024b) updates

5/29/2024

This is just a quick, possibly temporary post, to let players know that the Addendum has just been updated to the (2024b) edition. Some of the changes since the earlier (2024a) edition include:
  • The new Fishing mechanic for Master Class and Magic Users
  • Minor adjustment to the Fountain of Recovery
  • A brief section on selling Spells (to a certain someone) over at the tavern
The pdf packs have been updated as well with the following newly revised components:
  • Character Sheet (front) now shows the new Fishing die
  • Papercraft dice sheet now features the new Fishing and Bakery dice
  • The Companions deck now conforms to the new Health system
The addendum itself may indicate that the Companions deck is still out-of-date whereas in fact it has indeed been updated. So the samples there may not 100% match. We'll talk more about the Companions deck and the new health system in a future post, but the main thing is the way that Companions are (somewhat) less about boosting your character's resilience and a bit more about how the Fighters might step in at the Fighter's Guild, or work together during combat encounters.
All told this brings the game up to something along the lines of Ruleset v2.39.
...bearing in mind there are still other components waiting to be updated or, in the case of the Fortitude tokens, being created.

Master Class and Fishing dice

5/16/2024

The somewhat recent (2024a) Rules addendum briefly included changes to the way Master Class Fishing works. The main reason for the adjustment was the introduction of a fishing advantage for Magic Users.
When we first began developing the interplay between these two ideas there turned out to be a whole heap of potential ways to implement them, and I don't mind admitting we went back and forth on these... While we did eventually settle on the idea of adding a value to the streak (and then stopping) it was basically a feeling of alright, this is fine. Players will catch more fish but then that also opens up the activity as a more viable avenue for generating CP.
Although this idea, like the others "works fine" none of them felt entirely satisfying. Sometimes you just need to step back and revisit something until the right idea comes along. So to make this work in a way that does feel more satisfying, without getting overly complicated, it's time to (finally) introduce dedicated Fishing dice.
The most recent Addendum (2024b) now features the new Fishing dice along with a revised/simplified method for Master Class fishing and the Magic User fishing advantage.
Here's what the dice look like in the updated Papercraft dice (pdf).
Fishing_dice_1
Two Fishing dice, each with (3) Fish symbols and (3) Blanks.
You'll notice that rolling a single die is going to work exactly as it always has, with each roll offering a 50% chance at getting a catch. In other words, instead of working with Odds and Evens we're working with Blanks and Fish symbols. Try to get a streak going and keep it going as long as possible. So in this respect the activity will be familiar and comforting.
Here's what's new with respect to the skill enhancements.
The Magic User fishing advantage
Any Magic User, when fishing, may re-roll one blank. Simple as can be.

Master Class fishing - It isn't easy to reach this prestigious level of skill. But when they finally do your character now gets to use both dice when fishing. Oh-ho yeah. Every fish symbol that comes up counts toward the fishing streak. As soon as a blank comes up the die is out. Continue fishing until both dice have run out.
What about Characters who are both Magic Users and Master Class?
Roll both dice as usual. Being a Magic User still let's you re-roll one (and only one) blank. All fish symbols count toward the streak until both dice have run out.
And that's it. Streamlined. Simplified. More custom dice. More fun!
We'll try to get the revised addendum out in a timely manner. Just know there's lot's of stuff that needs to happen behind the scenes so it won't be just a handful of days, which is why we've gone ahead and posted this blog entry so at least players can start working on their Fishing dice ahead of time.

Oh, just one other quick thing regarding the new Fountain of Recovery (p.16). Funny it's on page 16 because on a roll of (16) the Fountain is going to give back your coin along with a second Copper Piece. Sort of like a small gesture of gratitude for an attempt that almost, but didn't quite make it.
That'll get updated in the (2024b) addendum as well.

Shopping in the City

10/23/2017

So many interesting things going on in The City.  The Royal Gardens, extravagant galas, the bustling streets, groups of strange little tourists (that look suspiciously like Goblins in disguise) snapping photos of the Cupcake Factory...  all the delightful shops and welcoming cafes to visit.  It's no wonder that folks from all over the land make a visit to The City part of their Holiday itinerary.  Visits to nearby RPG University and the School of Magic in particular are big attractions as well.  After a tough job ridding the world of evil bad guys and otherwise righting the wrongs that plague the land, our valiant heroes deserve the pleasure of an exciting (or relaxing) day browsing the quaint shops and trendy cafes of The City.
Please allow us to introduce the latest element to the world of Feonora, the new "Goods and Wares" shopping and collectibles add-on.  This entirely optional multi-page file features a selection of The City's most frequented establishments along with unique books, interesting wares, delectable treats and other rare finds.  Have a glimpse below...

Or download the entire Goods and Wares pdf to peruse at leisure.
It's something for our Characters to enjoy at the end of the Victory Phase when they perhaps have a few extra Copper Pieces to spend.  Your Characters will find that bargaining is a big part of the shopping experience so come prepared to nab that special something for a good deal less than the price on the tag.  Just be sure to properly follow the rules of bargaining etiquette.
